Big clash breaks out between security guards & students over cigarettes inside Gautam Buddha University, 33 held

As many as 33 security guards and students were taken into police custody in Greater Noida yesterday after a clash erupted between students and security authorities at the state-run Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida.

As per reports, the clash between the two groups broke off after security guards allegedly objected to some students smoking cigarettes at the Hostel inside the university campus, a police spokesperson told PTI. The incident reportedly happened late night at around 10:30 PM yesterday. The video of the incident has gone viral on the social media. In the video clip, some people can be seen wielding sticks and smashing two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked outside the hostel whose inmate is heard hurling expletives.

"An argument broke out between the two sides around 10.30 pm on Sunday and blew into a clash after which 33 people were taken into custody by a police team which reached the spot. The police have received complaints from both sides and the matter is being probed," the police spokesperson told PTI.


Police spokesperson told PTI that private security guards and college students were involved in the clash. He added that the exact break-up of the figures was not available immediately.

Police further informed that senior officials are investigating about the incident and more people could be taken into custody after completion of the investigation.
