Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has accused Bhutan for the recent deluge in North Bengal and said that the neighbouring country should pay compensation for losses.

"We have been insisting on the formation of the Indo-Bhutan River Commission with a representative of the state government there. A meeting is scheduled for October 16. We will send representatives. North Bengal had to face such a disaster because of the water released from Bhutan. We want the Bhutan government to pay compensation," she said in Jalpaiguri district's Nagrakata, adding: "Delhi does not pay a single paisa and Bengal has to spend everything."

The CM handed over job letters to one family member from each of the 10 families of the deceased at Bamandanga village in Nagrakata. She said the state would provide a compensation of ₹1.20 lakh to each of the house-owners whose houses were destroyed. "Farmers whose agricultural land has been damaged will receive crop insurance. For those who lost documents, a special camp is being organised where you can receive duplicate copies."
