Bhutan PM’s Assam visit holds strategic importance for India, Tobgay-Himanta discuss Northeast plan

Tshering Tobgay began a two-day visit to Assam focused on strengthening India-Bhutan connectivity, regional cooperation and development projects. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya welcomed the Bhutanese leader in Guwahati, where discussions centred on bilateral ties, the proposed Gelephu-Kokrajhar link and wider cooperation in the Northeast region. The visit also highlighted Assam’s growing role as a gateway to Southeast Asia and a key partner in regional integration.
