A woman in Bengaluru has accused a man of groping her near her residence on Monday night. Taking to X, she shared a video capturing the alleged perpetrator as she was entering her home. "Last night in #NammaBengaluru a friend of mine dropped me near my house and as I was about to open the gate, this man came and groped me from behind and started running. I called my friend and asked him to stop him before he rode away." she said.

The video, filmed by the woman, shows the man shielding his face from the camera. According to her, the man confessed to the assault.

"My friend was there to catch hold of him and had it not been the case, we never know what all could have happened and he would have not been caught," she said, adding that they promptly alerted the Bangalore Police, who apprehended him on the spot. She also said that the man was sober and fully aware and deliberately targeted her.

Despite the confession, the woman refrained from filing a First Information Report (FIR), fearing repercussions for defending herself. "I am unable to file an FIR because of all the trouble that lies ahead of it. The number of court trials and everything involved would mentally harass me is what the people in my neighbourhood suggested who had come on site to help me," she said.

While she opted not to file a formal complaint, the woman revealed that the perpetrator admitted to the assault in the presence of law enforcement. "I'm sharing this to raise awareness about the flaws in our legal framework, which often favor perpetrators," she remarked.

The woman lamented that unfortunately, this man will evade consequences once more because she had chosen not to lodge an FIR.
