Heavy rains lashed parts of of Bengaluru city, leaving many roads waterlogged. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, India's Silicon Valley is set to receive more rains this week. Rains have lashed the city over the past few days , bringing some relief from high temperature. Between May 6 and 12, Bengaluru saw more than 1,000 trees fall due to heavy rain and strong winds, overwhelming the civic agency's capacity to promptly clear them away. To address this, BBMP intends to sell the fallen branches on-site rather than transporting them to a forest depot. News agency ANI had reported waterlogging at some roads at the Electronic City and the Hosur main road.

In its weather forecast for the next seven days, IMD said that city is likely to witness partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm. The temperature is likely to remain between 23 degrees to 33 degrees over the next seven days, IMD said.


Bengaluru civic agency officials have requested permission from chief commissioner to conduct public auctions for the trunks, branches, and stumps of the fallen trees directly from where they fell. Typically, forest officials store branches and trunks roadside for transport to designated depots or dumping sites. However, transporting these items to depots becomes challenging, especially when dealing with the aftermath of over 1,000 tree collapses within a week.

Bengaluru traffic police has warned of slow-moving traffic in some parts of the city due to waterlogging.

Karnataka weather forecast

From now until May 17, 2024, the southern parts of the Indian Peninsula can expect a wet period with occasional heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts of wind, according to IMD. Over the next week, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe are likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching 40-50 kmph. During the same period, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema can anticipate isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.

Between May 13 and 17, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe. Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka may also experience isolated heavy rainfall from May 13 to 16.
