Parents Seek School Closures Amid Cyclone Impact
With the continuous downpour in Bengaluru, many parents have called for schools and colleges to be closed on Thursday. However, as of now, no confirmation has been made by the authorities. The IMD has forecasted that rainfall will persist in Bengaluru and surrounding districts for the next few days due to the ongoing effects of Cyclone Fengal.School Closures in Other Karnataka Districts
While Bengaluru awaits updates, schools in several districts of Karnataka have already been closed due to the heavy rainfall. The IMD’s alerts have affected Mandya, Mysuru, Kolar, Chamarajanagar, and Chikkaballapur, where school holidays were declared earlier this week. "Schools were closed in many districts due to continuous rains in the city," said a local official. These closures have been in place since Sunday, with school holidays declared on Monday and Tuesday as well.Weather Alerts and Forecast for the Coming Days
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Ramanagara, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi districts, warning of continued rainfall. Additionally, an orange alert has been declared for areas like Kadagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga, where the rainfall has been more intense.A new weather system, the Western Disturbance, is expected to influence the western Himalayan region and nearby plains starting December 7 and 8, 2024, which could further affect weather patterns in Karnataka. The IMD predicts that this will bring additional rainfall in the coming days.
As of now, Bengaluru's schools remain open despite the adverse weather conditions. Parents are awaiting an official update, as the IMD continues to monitor the situation closely. With Cyclone Fengal continuing to influence weather patterns, further developments are expected in the coming days.
