The accused, identified as Manjunath, an unemployed engineering graduate in his 30s and a resident of Hennur, initially fell from his scooter while being chased by witnesses but managed to escape.
According to TOI, e was later traced by police to a rented apartment near Bagalur, where he was found to be recovering from rib injuries sustained during the fall.
Sequence of events
The complainant, a Hebbal resident, was travelling with a friend towards Bharatiya City when they noticed a stray dog lying injured on the road.After stopping to assist, she carried the dog across to the pavement. At that point, Manjunath allegedly approached on a scooter and molested her before fleeing, the TOI report noted.
After placing the dog safely and washing their hands at a nearby fuel station, the complainant and her friend returned to their vehicle. The same man reportedly returned and repeated the act.
The complainant raised an alarm, and her friend, assisted by another motorist, pursued him for nearly a kilometre before his scooter skidded and he fell.
According to the media outlet, when confronted, he disclosed his name and number. The details were noted, and helpline 112 was contacted. A police patrol arrived shortly afterward, but the accused escaped once again.
Police action
The Amruthahally police later located him at his rented flat.According to officials cited by TOI, he had been living separately for the past two months, with his rent paid by his girlfriend working abroad. He was issued a notice to appear before investigators when required. His parents were also called and assured that he would cooperate.
A case was registered on September 12 under BNS Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) following the survivor’s complaint. Police said Manjunath had been returning from a party at the time of the incident. Further investigation is in progress.
