In one of the longest air ambulance flights to India in recent history, a 67-year-old Bengaluru woman with a significant heart condition was taken from Portland, Oregon, to Chennai on a 26-hour air ambulance journey that passed through Iceland and Turkey and landed in India early this morning.

The patient was from Indiranagar and was in Oregon with her children. She was also getting treated for her condition in the US, TOI reported

On Sunday morning, the 26-hour journey from Portland, Oregon, began for the lady. She was transferred in an ambulance from Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center to Portland International Airport. She was put on Challenger 605, the super-midsized private jet customised as a flying ICU.

The air ambulance landed in Chennai around 2.10 am Tuesday from Diyarbakir. After completing immigration formalities on board, the woman was taken to Apollo Hospital.

As an Indian passport holder, the woman reportedly had health insurance concerns.

"This was probably the longest-ever aeromedical retrieval in the country with the patient flown from the US to India over two days," Dr Nalwad claimed.
