In the early hours of Tuesday, a male passenger found himself in an unusual and distressing situation aboard a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru: The individual was reportedly stuck inside an aircraft lavatory for almost the entire duration of almost 100 minutes due to a malfunctioning door lock, Times of India reported citing sources. He was later rescued after engineers at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport broke open the loo door.

The incident unfolded on Flight SG-268, which took off from Mumbai airport at 2 am on Tuesday, originally scheduled to depart from Mumbai airport at 10:55 pm on Monday. It landed at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru at 3:42 am on Tuesday.

The passenger, seated in 14D, ventured into the toilet shortly after takeoff when the seatbelt signs were turned off. Unfortunately, a malfunction in the toilet door left him trapped inside, a predicament that became increasingly harrowing, especially during the crucial phase of landing, the report said, citing sources. The identity of the distressed passenger has not been immediately disclosed, and airline has not commented on the incident yet.

The crew on board, upon realizing the gravity of the situation, attempted to open the door from the outside, but their efforts proved futile. An air hostess slipped in resorted to communicating with the stranded passenger by writing a note on a piece of paper, urging him not to panic and assuring him of imminent assistance upon landing. The passenger was also urged to close the commode lid and sit on it and secure himself.

The flight touched down at 3:42 am on Tuesday, and as soon as it taxied to a stop, engineers rushed on board, breaking open the lavatory door to liberate the beleaguered individual. The entire ordeal, spanning almost two hours, had left the passenger in a state of distress due to claustrophobia. He was promptly escorted for first aid to address any physical or emotional repercussions of the unexpected and challenging situation.
