Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) director general Rabinarayan Acharya on Monday expressed the confidence that the two-day international conference on integrative approaches to obesity and metabolic syndrome would lead to insights into bridging traditional Ayurveda knowledge with contemporary biomedical research.

Acharya was speaking at the inaugural of the conference that began at IISc on Monday with about 700 delegates including experts from both within and outside of India in attendance. These insights, he said, were essential for strengthening future frameworks for integrative care and translational research.

IISc and Nimhans collaborated with CCRAS-Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in organizing the event on the foundation day of CCRAS, celebrated on December 1. The ongoing event marks the 57th foundation day of CCRAS.

Experts from Ayurveda, modern medicine, and allied scientific disciplines deliberated on emerging challenges in the management of metabolic disorders on the first day. The deliberations came in the context of the government’s emphasis on evidence-based integrative healthcare.

Former National Medical Commission chairman BN Gangadhar inaugurated the conference in the presence of Navakanta Bhat, Dean, CeNSE, IISc, and Koustubha Upadhyaya, Advisor (Ayurveda) Ministry of Ayush.

While Srikanth N, Deputy Director General at CCRAS gave a bird’s eye view of the conference, CARI Bengaluru’s in-charge director Sulochana Bhat said scientific interactions, workshops, and discussions would pave the way for new models of integrative care, translational research, and informed health policy.
