Bengaluru is gearing up for a significant drop in temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a minimum of 10.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This is well below the city’s January average minimum of 15.8 degrees Celsius and is attributed to the cold wave sweeping across northern India, reported Times Now, citing IMD.

Historically, Bengaluru recorded its lowest temperature of 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. In more recent years, the city saw lows of 12 degrees Celsius in 2012 and 12.3 degrees Celsius in 2019. On Thursday, the city’s minimum temperature averaged 16.7 degrees Celsius, with Hemmigepura recording the lowest at 14.1 degrees Celsius.

IMD forecasts suggest that minimum temperatures over the next two days could range from 10 to 12.5 degrees Celsius, with fog or mist expected in the early mornings. The maximum and minimum temperatures for Bengaluru are likely to hover around 28 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Other parts of Karnataka are also expected to see cooler conditions. Interior regions could witness a 2-degree drop in minimum temperatures before stabilizing, while coastal Karnataka is likely to remain unaffected.

Earlier this month, Bengaluru experienced a minimum temperature of 12.4 degrees Celsius on December 16, lower than the 12.8 degrees Celsius recorded on December 24, 2011, during a similar cold wave spell.
