The Bengali entertainment industry was jolted by the untimely death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee on Sunday, who reportedly drowned while shooting in Digha. He was 43.

According to a reports, the incident occurred during a shoot near the seaside town, where Banerjee had entered the water as part of the filming.

He failed to return, prompting immediate concern among the crew present at the location.


Members of the unit quickly launched a search and later retrieved him from the sea. Moreover, Times Entertainment sources told the news outlet that he had been rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A post-mortem report on Banerjee's death is expected to be carried out at Digha Hospital.

Reacting to the tragedy, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep shock and grief over Banerjee's sudden demise. She described the young actor as a distinguished and widely admired, saying his passing had left her “stunned and heartbroken.”

"Distinguished, young, and popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee is suddenly no longer among us—this news has left me stunned, heartbroken, and grief-stricken. I just can’t make sense of how this happened. He was one of my favorite actors and a wonderful person. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, and countless admirers. Rahul’s sudden departure is an irreparable loss for the Bengali acting world, Tollywood, and Teelwood," she wrote in a post on X.
