Kolkata: In a major breakthrough, the West Bengal Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested five persons, including an employee of a leading shop in Kolkata, selling licensed firearms and matching ammunition, in connection with illegal arms trafficking across the state.

The STF officials seized 190 pieces of live cartridges of 7.65 mm calibre, one double-barrel gun of IOF of 12 bore and nine live cartridges of 12 bore from the possession of four persons, who were arrested on Saturday and later a case was also registered. The fifth person was arrested last night along with one double-barrel gun with four rounds of live factory-made ammunition of 12 bore calibre, people in the know said.

"In a major raid at different places in Jibantala Police Station in South 24 Parganas district and in Minakhan Police Station area of North 24 Parganas, a team of the Special Task Force of West Bengal arrested four persons and recovered a huge number of live cartridges," the STF said. A case was lodged against four persons in this regard on Saturday morning.


All the arrested persons were produced in court and sent to police remand.
