Kolkata: On the first day of hearing of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengal starting in 294 Constituencies, Trinamool Congress four-term MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has alleged harassment by the Election Commission as four members of her family members, including two sons and her 90 year-old mother, have been summoned for hearings.

Ghosh also claimed that apart from two of her sons, her mother and sister have been issued notices for hearing.

Ghosh said that both her sons are government employees. “My husband, Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar, was a member of the West Bengal cabinet. I have been a MP for four terms since 2009. Despite that, my sons, sister and my mother have summoned for the hearing. What is going on in the name of SIR is unimaginable. This is an exercise to harass people," the MP said.


The MPs 90-year-old mother, Ira Mitra, has also received hearing notice.

Another Khandaghosh Trinamool MLA has also been summoned for hearing.

Altogether 31 plus lakh unmapped voters are being called for hearing, starting from today. After publication of draft list on December 16, the Claims & Objection period has started from December 17 and will continue till January 16, 2026.

The hearings is being held at 3,234 tables spread across 294 Constituencies across the state, with each Constituencies having 11 tables for hearing, a senior EC official said.

There are 11 Assembly Constituencies in Kolkata North and South combined and with 11 tables each, there will be altogether 121 tables, where hearing will be conducted, a senior official said. Every Constituency will have 11 tables and it is applicable for 294 Assembly Constituencies.

The signature, photograph, and documents, along with the Enumeration Forms of the voters, who have been called for the hearing, will be uploaded in EROnet. The BLO, ERO, AERO, and Micro Observers will be present during the hearings. They will monitor and scrutinize the hearing process.

Hearing in Kolkata North was done in Jessop building. Apart from that hearing was conducted in Mitra Institution in Bhabanipur, Mominpur and several other locations across the city.
