Begusarai: Girl allegedly raped, brutally beaten on camera in hotel room

A video allegedly showing a young woman being assaulted and raped inside a hotel room in Bihar's Begusarai district has surfaced on social media on Tuesday, triggering public concern and a political reaction. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday at a hotel located along National Highway 31 in the town area. Begusarai Town Police have registered a case after the woman's family approached them with a complaint, a TOI report said.

Satish Kumar Himanshu, the station house officer (SHO) of Begusarai Town police station, confirmed that the family lodged an FIR on Monday evening. According to the police officer, a man identified as Rohit Kumar, a resident of the Bhagwanpur police station area, has been named in the case. Another man has also been named in the FIR, although the SHO said he was not directly involved in the alleged incident.

What the Begusarai video allegedly shows

The footage circulating on social media shows a young man allegedly grabbing the woman by her hair and assaulting her. He is also seen hitting her with slippers inside the hotel room. The video has triggered outrage online, particularly over the alleged sexual assault and the violence visible in the footage.


The allegations are serious. However, the claims regarding the incident and the role of those named in the FIR remain subject to police investigation.

Tejashwi Yadav targets Bihar government over Begusarai incident

The incident also prompted a political response from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who criticised the Bihar government over the state's law and order situation. In a post on X, Yadav referred to the alleged rape and assault in Begusarai and accused the state government of failing to ensure the safety of women.


He alleged that Bihar was witnessing an atmosphere of insecurity, injustice and oppression, and used strong language to attack the ruling establishment. Yadav also linked the incident to the appointment of a person he described as having a criminal background as chief minister, claiming that it had emboldened criminals.

RJD leader questions PM Modi's silence

Yadav also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his response to the incident and accusing him of remaining silent despite the alleged assault. In his post, the RJD leader referred to the prime minister's election campaign visits to Bihar and accused him of raising the issue of 'jungle raj' during elections while not speaking out about the alleged crime. He also invoked a Bhojpuri song associated with Modi's political messaging, asking whether the prime minister had exhausted the bullets from his favourite song.
