Rachin Ravindra, one of the revelation of this World Cup, visited his grandmother's house in Bangalore on Thursday to seek her blessings. New Zealand cricketer Ravindra, whose parents are from Bangalore, has helped the Kiwis almost seal a semi-final berth. In a video doing the rounds on social media, Ravindra's grandmother seems to be doing the 'buri nazar' protection ritual, with the Kiwi all-rounder seated on a sofa.

In Thursday's Bangalore clash against Sri Lanka, New Zealand beat Lanka by five wickets, almost qualifying for the semis against India next week in Mumbai. New Zealand chased down the target of 172 for the loss of five wickets in 23.2 overs. Rachin Ravindra made 42 runs while he also picked up two wickets.

The video of has Kiwi star seeking his grandmother's blessings has gone virial on social media. "He is blessed to have such an amazing family," said an user.


Some users praised the cricketer' family of sticking to their Indian root. "Wow, nice to see still they loving Indian culture," said another user.

Youngster Rachin Ravindra, who was not even close to breaking New Zealand's playing XI before the World Cup, is now the top scorer of the tournament so far, powering the Kiwis journey. He has so far scored 565 runs in 9 innings with 3 centuries.

Talking to Star Sports after the Thursday's game, the 23-year-old youngster thanked the Bangalore crowd for their support. "Grateful for the support, especially playing in Bangalore. Crowd chanting my name is something I will never take for granted. Dreamt of it as a child. Lucky enough to have come here in my teenage years on club tours," he said.

Rachin Ravindra, whose first name is a mix of of the first names of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, has now become the player with most runs in a single edition of World Cup under the age of 25, surpassing the record of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar (523).
