Prabhas Mondal, one of the accused, was arrested on Monday, and was taken to the spot by police for the reconstruction of events. Mondal has reportedly snatched the service firearm and fired at police personnel and tried to flee.
Mondal reportedly tried to snatch a service weapon from a police personnel at the spot and attempted to escape from custody. Police then opened fire, injuring him. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, officials said. Mondal was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Sandhya Mondal, Prabhas’ mother said, “He received the punishment for doing a bad deed. He has killed a person. I have no regrets.” Sandhya Mondal has been brought to Baruipur police station.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari yesterday visited Baruipur to meet the family of the victim and promised stringent action against the culprits. The family of the 12-year minor girl, who was raped and murdered, in South 24 Parganas district’s Baruipur, on Tuesday demanded highest punishment of the culprits.
The three arrested accused are questioned as investigators are reconstructing the sequence of events.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari directed DGP Siddh Nath Gupta to submit a report within 72 hours. “After the report is submitted, whatever action needs to be taken on the administrative side will be done. If there is any laxity from any of our personnel, action will be taken.”
The Special Investigation (SIT) appointed by West Bengal government is probing the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old minor girl in Baruipur. DGP Siddh Nath Gupta visited the area and monitored the probe.
The body of the 12-year-old minor was recovered from a pond on Sunday morning. She had been missing since Saturday. Tension had erupted in Baruipur on Sunday after her body was recovered. The mob outrage and protests were witnessed in the area. Police arrested three accused, including Mondal, in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Police has identified around 200 persons in connection with vandalism in Baruipur and CM said all will be arrested.
