Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on Wednesday provided over 200 bio kits for the detection of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables.

A training session on the demonstration of Bio-kits for detection of pesticides (OP & OC) by Scientist Jitendra Kumar of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai was held at Food Safety Laboratory at Bamunimaidan in Guwahati on Wednesday.

A total of 200 kits were delivered by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for the detection of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables. The Gauhati High Court directed the State Government to chalk out a plan to prevent the entry of contaminated vegetables in the Guwahati markets.


Earlier a Central Task Force of the Assam Agriculture Department was formed comprising of officials to check the indiscriminate use of Pesticides and chemicals in fruits and vegetables.

Assam’s agriculture minister, Atul Bora earlier said that the state government will regulate the use of pesticide and fertilisers in agriculture produce.
