Ban on new year celebrations in India: The list of curbs imposed by states
As Omicron cases rise, gatherings have been banned by many states. Essentially, that means an end to new year parties this time.

Here follows the list of states and union territories that have introduced fresh restrictions of one type or another:
Delhi
Curbs put in place by Delhi are among the strictest so far. A 'Yellow alert' has been issued in the capital. A night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am was already in force in the city.
All kinds of gatherings and cultural events have been banned on new year's eve. Restaurants, bars, and public transports have been ordered to operate at half capacity.
Karnataka
There is a 10-day night curfew (from 10pm to 5am) in place in the state till January 7. Under an order, there will be no new year celebrations at pubs, restaurants, hotels, etc.
The govt has also enforced a ban on holding any parties in external premises too.
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, no gathering of more than five persons in public places is allowed between 9 pm and 6 am.
All kinds of new year celebrations — regardless of whether in internal spaces or external premises — have been banned by the BMC.
Under a new state government order, new year parties are banned on RK Salai, Rajaji Salai, Kamarajar Salai, Anna Salai, GST Road and other arterial roads.
Besides, no gatherings are to be allowed in Marina Beach, Elliots Beach, Neelankarai, Each Coast Road.
Kerala
There will be no new year celebrations in the state during night hours.
Odisha
The state has brought in additional restrictions on new year parties, which will now be in force till January 2. Any new year night party is banned in hotels, clubs, restaurants, convention halls, etc. Parks and other public places also come under its purview.
Gujarat
In eight cities of Gujarat, the night curfew has been extended by two hours. The cities are Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Gandhinagar.
The original curfew was from 1am to 5am. The new timings are 11pm to 5am.
Goa
Goa has not banned celebrations. The state government has also not placed any night curfew.
However, complete vaccination or Covid-19 negative report is mandatory if you want to go to parties or enter restaurants.
