Zeeshan Siddiqui, the son of murdered NCP leader Baba Siddique, had received threats just days before the incident occurred, reported ANI citing Mumbai police.

During interrogation, the accused revealed to the Mumbai Police that both Zeeshan and Baba Siddique were targets, and they had been instructed to open fire on anyone they encountered.

The police also confirmed that the accused were contracted to kill both Zeeshan and Baba Siddique.


On October 12, 2024, between 21:15 and 21:30 hours, Siddique was shot multiple times by three men in the presence of his son as he left his office in Bandra (West), Mumbai. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment, he was declared dead by medical staff.

A case has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under Crime Registration No. 589/2024, involving multiple charges, including sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act.

The police have so far arrested Gurmail Singh as one of the main accused in the case who has been sent to Mumbai Crime Branch custody until October 21. Along with Gurmail Baljit Singh, 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh was also apprehended by the police as one of the main suspects in the case. Meanwhile, the fourth main suspect was identified as Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, informed Mumbai Police.

The three Lonkar brothers - Shubham, Pravin, and Shubuu - who have been implicated in the case, the first two have been apprehended by the police but the third brother remains absconding.

The murder of politician Baba Siddique in Mumbai sent shockwaves through the city, raising urgent concerns about its law and order situation. This assassination marks the first high-profile political murder in Mumbai in nearly three decades, prompting fears among residents and the opposition regarding safety in a city long considered one of the safest in India.
