Baba Siddique murder: Mumbai Crime Branch arrests Shubham Lonkar after Pravin, while Shubuu absconds

The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Shubham Lonkar from Pune on Monday in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Sidiqque. Lonkar is the brother of Shubuu Lonkar, who is currently evading arrest and posted on social media on Sunday that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for the murder, reported ANI.

According to the Mumbai Police, Shubham Lonkar provided shelter to both of the arrested suspects in Pune. Earlier, the police arrested Gurmail Singh as one of the main accused in the case who has been sent to Mumbai Crime Branch custody until October 21.

Along with Gurmail Baljit Singh, 19-year-old Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh was also apprehended by the police as one of the main suspects in the case. The third accused is on the run and efforts are on to trace him, police said. The police have also arrested the 28-year-old brother of Shubham Lonkar, Pravin Lonkar.


Pravin Lonkar is one of the conspirators who, along with Shubham Lonkar, enlisted Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam in the plot, Mumbai police said. Meanwhile, the fourth main suspect was identified as Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar, informed Mumbai Police.

Baba Siddique's assailants were identified by the Mumbai crime branch on Sunday, a day after the NCP politician was shot dead in the city.

The murder is suspected to be a pre-planned act, a Mumbai police official said on Sunday.

On October 12, 2024, between 21:15 and 21:30 hours, Siddiqui was shot multiple times by three men as he left his office in Bandra (West), Mumbai. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment, he was declared dead by medical staff.

A case has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under Crime Registration No. 589/2024, involving multiple charges, including sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act.
