Mumbai police on Sunday said they had arrested the shooter and two others in NCP leader Baba Siddique murder case from Uttar Pradesh. Shivakumar and two others were arrested in a joint operation with STF of UP police, an official said.
Shivkumar, 22, is a scrap dealer. He said that he agreed to carry out the murder because of the need to earn quick money to support his family.
The accused has no previous criminal record in Uttar Pradesh. The UP Special Task Force (STF) said that Shiv wanted funds for the education of his two younger brothers aged seven and 11, and for the weddings of his two sisters aged 15 and 16. His father, Baal Kishun, is a farmer.
Interrogations have revealed that Shivkumar had travelled to Pune for work four years ago in order to support his family.
The shooter connected with Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence's brother through Snapchat and was promised Rs 10 lakh for killing Siddiqui.
According to officials, Shivkumar learned to use the 9mm Glock pistol, provided by the Bishnoi gang, by watching videos on YouTube.
The STF official said, "Shiv was well-trained; his shots were precise and controlled." Hence, he was chosen as the main shooter while Dharmraj and Gurmail Singh were in support.
For nearly two months, Shiv, along with Dharmraj and Gurmail, conducted surveillance on Siddiqui. The entire operation was coordinated through Instagram with the conspirators.
The three are being brought to Mumbai, he said. Siddique was shot dead on October 12 by three assailants outside his son MLA Zeeshan Siddique's office building in Bandra East. He sustained two bullet injuries on his chest and was rushed to the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away.
