New Delhi: Azerbaijan as the current CICA (Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia) chair has backed India's request to host the forum in 2026.

Over the past decade, China has traditionally been heading the CICA forum. Baku as the current chair agreed to back India to host the forum, a first for India, ET has learnt.

Azerbaijan as the CICA chair used its prerogative to support India and the decision was not based on consensus, it has been learnt. India will organise the forum under the aegis of MEA's Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).

An ICWA delegation led by Nutan Kapoor Mahawar had participated in the 13th meeting of the forum in Baku on September 9-10.
