New Delhi: India has issued an advisory urging its nationals to avoid any non-essential travel to Iran until further notice amid the ongoing protests. "In view of recent developments, Indian nationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice. The Indian citizens and PIOs currently in Iran should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and closely monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Embassy of India in Tehran," MEA said in a statement.

Indian nationals living in Iran on resident visas are advised to register with the embassy if not already done so, MEA noted.

ET had reported last week that India is keeping a close watch and exploring various options to evacuate nationals if protests spread and if there is an external attack following the warning from the US President.
