With 8.8% Covid-19 positivity rate, Mumbai has surpassed Maharashtra's weekly average positivity rate amid rising number of Covid cases in the country. Followed by Mumbai is the city of Palghar which reported a spike of 4.9% positivity rate.

Positivity rate in the suburb of Thane nearly doubled within a span of seven days. On Monday, the city reported an increase to 20% from the 10% recorded last Sunday.

The officials have increased the daily testing in the state owing to the surge in Covid-19 cases. Close to 25,000 tests are being conducted daily, reported TOI. Daily Covid-19 cases have been climbing steadily in Maharashtra for the last few days, however, people can hardly be seen following any restrictions in the state.


Maharashtra on Monday reported 1,036 new Covid-19 cases. The caseload in the state rose to 78,94,233, while the death toll remained unchanged at 1,47,866. Mumbai city witnessed the highest 676 new Covid-19 infections.

Out of 35 districts, six districts, namely, Kolhapur, Dhule, Nandurbar, Buldhana, Gondia and Jalna have zero active cases. The tally of recovered patients rose to 77,38,938 with 374 patients recovering since Sunday evening.

The highest 933 new cases were reported from Mumbai circle that includes the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region, followed by Pune (72), Nashik (12), Latur (6), Nagpur (5), Kolhapur (3), Akola (3) and Aurangabad (2).
