Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai speaks in Rajya Sabha during the Budget Session of Parliament in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The Foreigners Tribunals operating in Assam have declared 143,466 people as foreigners until December 31, 2021, and 329 of them have been deported to their countries of origin, the government told Parliament on Wednesday.

These tribunals have also declared 121,598 people who had approached them as Indians, Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai said in the Rajya Sabha.

There are 100 FTs currently functioning in Assam, Rai said, citing information from the state government. "The total number of cases pending in these FTs as on December 31, 2021, is 123,829," he said in a written reply to a question.

Rai said the Assam government and Union territory administrations were delegated powers and functions to make necessary arrangements for detention centres or camps as per their requirement.

People whose names do not figure on the final list of Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC) can approach the FTs.
