On Monday, six policemen including a civilian were killed and 70 people injured along the Assam-Mizoram border. Sarma, who visited Silchar on Tuesday, said Assam would not spare even an inch of its land to Mizoram. He then rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where security personnel who were injured during the firing were admitted. He said that, if required, the injured police personnel should be shifted to Guwahati or elsewhere for advanced treatment.
Sarma also laid wreaths to their mortal remains of those who lost their lives on Monday. Besides announcing an ex-gratia amount of ₹50 lakh to the next of the kin of each of the deceased, Sarma also announced a government job for a family member of the deceased. He said that all the police personnel who sustained injuries would be given ₹1 lakh government aid. Moreover, the Assam Police personnel deployed along the 164.6 Assam-Mizoram border will get an additional one month's salary. The Assam government has announced a three-day mourning following the death of the policemen in Monday's border skirmish.
Sarma said there was no question of retaliation, as Assam respects the life of every individual.
