Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the north eastern state will be soon able to set new milestones in industrialisation.

Sarma tweeted, "Setting up of CNG stations is a step towards popularizing green energy in Assam. In past 2 years, there is peace and a positive atmosphere in our State. We will be soon able set new milestones in industrialisation in Assam. "

He added, "to meet the twin objectives of promoting clean energy & creating jobs , I joined my cabinet colleagues to dedicate projects worth Ra 200 crore in the tea growing regions of Golaghat district. Nambor - Numaligarh Gas Pipleline by Assam Gas Ltd CNG mother station at Hazarigaon"


Sarma on Friday attended as Chief Guest the 57th Sammelan Divas of Assam Gorkha Sammelan held at Garpal in Sonitpur district.

Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister lauded the role of Assam Gorkha Sammelan as the torch-bearer of inalienable rights of the Gorkhas of Assam as sons-of-the-soil. Assam Gorkha Sammelan, since its inception, has been relentlessly working towards uplift of the members of the Gorkha community of Assam, the Chief Minister remarked. The Chief Minister also added that the Gorkhas are an integral part of the greater Assamese community.

The Chief Minister stated that ever since him taking over the reins of the State administration in the 2021, sincere efforts have been made at fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the members of the Gorkhas of Assam. The current dispensation in the State has put an end to the harrasment of Gorkhas of Assam in the name of identification of foreigners, the Chief Minister said.

Sarma also spoke about numerous initiatives such as conferment of "protected class" to Gorkhas, among others, aimed at socio-economic empowerment of the community members. The Chief Minister further declared that from now onwards, Assam Gorkha Sammelan would have the authority to issue Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates to eligible members of the Gorkha community. The Chief Minister also stated that steps shall be taken to issue "Gorkha Certificates" through dedicated portals and that this initiative would prove helpful for the Gorkha youths of the State getting enrolled into the Indian armed forces.
