Assam: ULFA (Independent) claims it has caught undercover agent from police

Ulfa (independent) which is also known as anti-talk ULFA, detained the agent at its camp in Myanmar. The Assam police agent has been identified as Sanjeev Sarma and he hails from Muktapur in Baihata Chariali.

Proscribed militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has claimed that it has unearthed an undercover agent of Assam police.

Ulfa (independent) which is also known as anti-talk ULFA, detained the agent at its camp in Myanmar. The Assam police agent has been identified as Sanjeev Sarma and he hails from Muktapur in Baihata Chariali.

In a statement the outfit stated Sarma has recently joined as ULFA.He however is a spy of Assam police. He was sent to gather vital information about the outfit.


In a video message, which is sent along with the statement Sarma said that he was trained for undercover operations and was sent by Kamrup SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta and army official Dhunumoni Saikia. He said that he was promised a reward of Rs one Crore

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “As a chief minister I do not think there is any need to make a comment on the ULFA’s statement.”

Recently some youths have joined the ULFA (Independent). Ulfa (independent) has twice extended the unilateral ceasefire and later refrained from calling bandh during independence day celebration on August 15 last year.

Recently Sarma said, “We are in touch with parents with youths who have recently gone to join Ulfa (independent). This is not the right way. Some people are going to join ULFA and definitely we are worried about it.”

The chief minister added, “To ensure that this youth are dissuaded is the work of the society. Some youths attracted by the outfit's ideology go to join it, however later they come and surrender.” Sarma however clarified that this is nothing to do with the move to bring this proscribed outfit to peace parleys.
