Assam: Three get death sentence for raping, murdering tribal girls

Farizul Rahman, Najibul Ali Sheik and Muzamil Sheik were convicted. The accused were arrested on June 14 last year.

Three persons were awarded death sentence on Friday by Sessions Court in Assam's Kokrajhar for the rape and murder of two minor girls last year.

Farizul Rahman, Najibul Ali Sheik and Muzamil Sheik were convicted. The accused were arrested on June 14 last year.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said, "Hon. Sessions Court, Kokrajhar awarded death sentence to accused Muzamil, Najibul & Farizul in the gruesome case of rape & murder of two tribal minor girls. I visited the family on 13.6.21 and directed @lrbishnoiassam to form SIT and take the case to it’s logical conclusion."


The minor girls from the same family were found hanging from a tree in Kokrajhar district.

Earlier one of the accused - Farizul Rahman was injured in police firing while attempting to flee from police custody.
