Assam tea exports rise by 40 million kg in2025-26; Govt hikes orthodox tea incentive to Rs 15 per kg
Assam's orthodox tea exports are set for a significant boost. The state anticipates a 40 million kg increase in exports by 2025-26. To support this growth, the government is raising incentives on orthodox tea production from Rs 10 to Rs 15 per kg....

Sarma while talking to media said that in the 2025-26 production of orthodox tea have also increased substantially in the current fiscal.
Hailing the improved production and export as a strong turnaround after about 25 years, the Chief Minister said that the state has produced 50 million kgs of total tea and out of which 50 percent are orthodox tea.
“As per the statistics available with us, while the production of the Assam tea has registered an increase of 40 million kgs, the production of the South Indian tea has decreased in the current fiscal,” Sarma said.
He credited the policy decisions in the last five years for the improved production figures and added that the government has also decided to further incentivise the production of orthodox tea across the state. “We have earlier decided to give an incentive of Rs. 10 against per kg of orthodox tea produced. Now considering the improvement our government has decided to increase the incentive to Rs. 15 against per kg of orthodox tea produced,” the Chief Minister said.
“We have decided to increase the incentive for orthodox tea production so that we can see further stronger exports in the days to come,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that with the increased production figures, the tea producers in Assam would be able to take advantage of the recently signed free trade agreement with the European Union countries.
