Assam students union seeks police for detection & deportation of foreigners
All Assam Students Union asked the Assam government to deploy a superintendent of police in each district specially tasked with the detection and deportation of foreigners

AASU leaders on Wednesday held a meeting with Assam accord implementation minister Atul Bora. AASU 's Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya told media persons, “We have stressed the need to strengthen the mechanisms for detection and deportation of foreigners in Assam. We are seeking deployment of a superintendent of police with a team in every district specially for this purpose.”
Presently there is border police in districts that work under a SP however SPs have to deal with a lot of issues.
The NRC is monitored by the Supreme court. The updation process of the NRC in Assam has been caught in a logjam two years after the publication of the supplementary list on August 31, 2019. Rejection slips are yet to be issued to those excluded –– who can move the Foreigners Tribunal (FT) to challenge the decision –– and the Registrar General of India (RGI) has not yet notified the NRC, officials aware of the matter told ET.
The supplementary NRC list had found more than 31.1 million people eligible to be included in the registry and left out over 1.9 million people.
