After a lull of several months, security forces once again came under attack in Manipur. On Friday Assam Rifles vehicle was attacked by unidentified gunmen at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district, an Assam Rifles jawan died while another was rushed to hospital.

A senior police officer who does not want to be named said that the incident took place around 5.50 pm when the vehicle of Assam Rifles came under fire by unidentified gunmen. The vehicle was travelling towards Bishnupur district from Imphal.

Prime minister Narendra Modi visited Churachandpur on September 13 and met Internally displaced people (IDPs) and addressed a rally. He also met IDPs in Imphal.


Security forces have launched a massive crackdown on illegal arms for the last several months. Security Forces comprising Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/ Army and CAPFs conducted extensive search operations in the hill districts of Manipur in the last few days and recovered 87 arms.

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and other materials concealed in various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites in the interior and suspected areas of Churachandpur,Chandel, and Tengnoupal districts by joint teams comprising of Manipur Police, Assam
Rifles/ Army and CAPFs.

Around 57 ammunitions were recovered, radio sets around 23 were recovered besides two Radio Set Charger were also recovered.

Over 260 people were killed, more than 1,500 injured, and over 70,000 people displaced after the ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zo people on My 3,2023 after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’, organized in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
