Assam police has found that three operatives of this outfit who were arrested in Tripura recently visited a couple of places in Assam in December last year and stayed there for some time.

Director general of police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “Their leaders are all from Bangladesh. We have already taken up the matter with the Bangladesh government informally. We will also take up the matter through the Interpol soon.”

Recently Assam police arrested six operatives of Bangladesh chapter of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) Ansar al Islam in Barpeta district.


Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said that the Jehadi network will be dismantled.

Sarma said, “There are information of Jehadis and we are working on it. We are getting intelligence input from the Centre. The jihadi network will be dismantled.”

Assam police earlier apprehended five persons from Howly, Barpeta and Kalgachia Police Stations area for their links with a Jehadi outfit.

During preliminary enquiry conducted so far, it is found that Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman who is a citizen of Bangladesh having illegally entered India was working as a teacher of Dhakaliapara Masjid.

Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman had successfully indoctrinated and motivated four others to join the module of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with a view to develop Barpeta district as a base for Jehadi work and unlawful activities of Al-Qaida and its related organization. Incriminating documents and electronic devices were recovered from their possession.
