Assam Police arrest eight persons for their involvement in the gangrape of a girl

Guwahati: Police in Assam have arrested eight persons for their involvement in the gangrape of a girl.

The perpetrators have also recorded the rape on camera and made it viral. Police arrested these persons from Guwahati.

A senior police officer said that the arrest was made based on a video, which has gone viral on social media. Police have asked the people not to share the video further.


The police officer said, “Information was received by an Officer-in-Charge of Garchuk police station in Guwahati from a journalist regarding circulation of video. The video allegedly depicts a gang rape incident involving a group of youth and a woman. Police analysed the video and arrests were made.”

Police added, “Youths who have been identified in the video and were arrested include Kuldeep Nath, Bijoy Rabha, Pinku Das, Gagan Das, Saurav Bora, Mrinal Rabha , and Dipankar Mukhiya".

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Padmanabh Baruah said that police after analysing the video got down to action immediately and arrested the youths who were visible in the video for their involvement in the gang rape. "Our team conducted raids around 3.30 am to 5 am in different locations on Friday and arrested the seven," he said.

The incident took place on November 17, 2024. "These people had gone to the Durga temple located on a hillock and one of them brought this victim there. Later, they raped the girl and one of them made a video. There were a total of nine youths involved.”
