Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in X, “ Displaying alertness along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @assampolice apprehended 5 illegal Bangladeshis near the International border and pushed them back across the border .
Those people were identified as Dudu Mia Chakder, Anuwar Hussain, Imran Hassan, Md Mahabub and Nahar Begum.
The Border Security Force Guwahati Frontier stated that during the last one year (period between 1st January 2024 to 29 November 2024), total seizure worth Rs. 12.7 Crores (approx.), consisting of Cattle Heads, Phensedyl, Gold, Yaba Tablets, Ganja, others Contraband items etc have been seized and rescued 6088 cattle heads from smugglers in the AOR of Guwahati Frontier.
Over 35 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended. The BSF stated, “On 9 August 2024, Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) successfully addressed a significant and different kind of challenge on India-Bangladesh border in Coochbehar District, West Bengal. Approximately 1,000 personnels, reportedly Bangladeshi nationals, approached the International Border, seeking refuge in India due to fear of atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh. Faced with the delicate task of managing humanitarian concerns while ensuring border security, the BSF demonstrated a high degree of professionalism, with its officers and men swiftly responding to the situation & management professionally in coordination with civil administration".
