Assam: National flag unfurled in Guwahati and Dibrugarh for the first time

Guwahati:For the first time national flag was unfurled at two places of Guwahati and Dibrugarh in Upper Assam.

In Guwahati the flag was unfurled Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. In Dibrugarh chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hoisted the flag.

Sarma said that Dibrugarh will to be the second Capital of Assam and will have an Assembly Complex by 2027.


He said that Tezpur on Northern Bank of Brahmputra River will be Cultural Capital and will have a Raj Bhawan. Silchar in Barak valley to host Mini Secretariat and Chief Secretary's Office.

He said that new Pension Scheme to be phased out; Unified Pension Scheme will be rolled out from April 1, 2025.

Sarma said that government will set up department of Startups. " Government will provide upto Rs 1000/month to State Government employees for buying books in Year of Reading, Rs 3 lakh will be provided for 25,000 Namghars and Rs 1500 monthly support to Udaxin Bhakats. "

Sarma said, "Startups are the backbone of a new Assam's economic renaissance.We will create the first ever, Department of Startups to streamline and facilitate their growth.Those employees whose recruitment process started prior to 2005 but could not be completed will be shifted to Old Pension Scheme. "

Sarma stated in X, "The successful hosting of #RepublicDayCelebration in Dibrugarh today without any calls for boycott or any untoward incident proves yet again that Assam is now a safe state - for investors, tourists, visitors and its citizens."

He added, "once shrouded in curfews and boycotts, Dibrugarh today stands proudly as the center of Republic Day celebrations in Assam. This remarkable journey reflects the strength of the world’s greatest Republic- Bharat."
