During the drive against illicit drugs, it has been observed that most of the drugs were routed to Assam via Mizoram from across the border, the Assam government claimed.
After over a week of escalating tension, the Assam and Mizoram governments have agreed to maintain peace along the inter-state border areas. The neighbouring states have agreed not to send their respective forest and police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement or for fresh deployment to any of the areas where conflict has taken place.

This would include areas along the Assam-Mizoram border covering the districts of Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar in Assam, and Mamit and Kolasib in Mizoram. The chief ministers of both the states will soon hold a meeting.

Assam agriculture minister Atul Bora and irrigation minister Ashok Singhal, along with Commissioner & Secretary (Home, Political, Border Protection), GD Tripathi, on Thursday visited Aizawl in Mizoram and held discussions with the representatives of the Mizoram government.
