Assam-Meghalaya border dispute: BJP demands resignation of Lahkmen Rymbui

BJP which is a partner of the ruling coalition has demanded resignation of the state home minister Lahkmen Rymbui. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma discussed the situation of Meghalaya in the all party meeting on Monday.

While Assam has lifted travel restrictions to Meghalaya, Meghalaya government has decided to lift the temporary suspension of mobile internet and data services that was imposed in seven districts of the state since November 22 last in the wake of Mukroh firing incident.

BJP which is a partner of the ruling coalition has demanded resignation of the state home minister Lahkmen Rymbui. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma discussed the situation of Meghalaya in the all party meeting on Monday.

Following firing by the Assam Police that left five civilians of Meghalaya and an Assam forest guard dead in West Jaintia Hills district. An advisory was issued by the Assam Police, asking people to avoid travelling to the neighbouring state following the incident on Tuesday.


Sangma told media persons’ state government has decided to lift the temporary suspension of mobile internet and data services in view of the improvement of the overall law and order situation. The Government would set up border outposts in sensitive areas.

Meghalaya government has constituted a judicial commission of inquiry headed by Justice (retd) T Vaiphei to inquire into the Mukroh shooting incident on November 22.

BJP Meghalaya president Ernest Mawrie told ET, “We have demanded resignation of the state home minister for it is his failure. Police department comes under him and he has to take responsibility for the lapses.”
