Assam on Sunday started destruction of drugs worth Rs 473 crore.In last five years Assam has seized drugs worth Rs 3327 crore.
Police has found that drug peddlers use women and children to carry small quantity of heroine. Drugs are concealed inside the plasters in the body.
Sarma said that Assam is being used as transit route for drugs originating from Myanmar which comes to Assam from Mizoram and Manipur and move onwards to West Bengal and rest of India. " We are being able to seize just 20 percent of the drugs that is moving from Assam. Consumption of drugs is not much in Assam."
Sarma for the first time in Assam there is consensus among all the political parties that there must strictest action on drugs cartel. "Union Home ministry has provided incenator for destruction of drugs. In last five years over 3333 cases are filed under the NDPS Act."
Sarma said that Union Home minister Amit Shah is regularly holding meeting with the DGPs and there is greater synergy and input sharing now." NCORD meetings are being held regularly.The new government in West Bengal is co-operating in war against drugs. Border points in Mizoram and Manipur are strengthened.Erection of fencing along the international border in Myanmar is going to intensity war against drugs."
He informed that drugs cartel use different modules. " With technology in place we will intensity our fight against drug cartel."
