Assam government to make service of personal security officers a paid one

The Assam government will now charge for Personal Security Officers. Individuals with perceived threats can apply, paying Rs. 75,000 monthly. Assam also introduced a concert policy.

Guwahati: Assam government has decided to make the service of the Personal Security Officers a paid one.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that from now on PSOs will be granted to individuals and organizations wherever there is a threat perception but the seeker has to pay for it.

“Anyone who has a threat perception, can apply for availing the service of PSOs but he or she has to bear the cost of the PSO. The applicant or the seeker of the PSO has to pay an amount of Rs. 75000 per month to the government of Assam,” he said.

Assam has also unveiled concert policy. American rap and hip-hop star Pop Melone is likely to perform in Assam in December this year, Chief Minister Sarma said this on Wednesday while unveiling the state’s new concert policy for the first time.

He said, "Our neighbouring state Meghalaya does lots of concerts. Even Gujarat has earned about Rs. 600 crore in a single concert last year. Today we have discussed in the cabinet and approved the concert policy. From now on, any company who wants to hold a concert in Assam, we are going to offer three venue—Guwahati,Dibrugarh and Jorhat,” said the Chief Minister adding that the government will give the venue with state of the art facilities of sound and lights to hold the concerts.

“I think we are going to have fair competition with our neighbouring state Meghalaya, who does lots of concert,” said the Chief Minister adding that state was losing earlier as there was no specific policy for holding big concerts.
