Assam government to come up with a call centre exclusively dedicated to the problems of child marriage

Assam government will come up with a call centre exclusively dedicated to the problems of child marriage to arrest the commission of child marriage in the state. The state government will make sufficient budgetary allocations in this year’s budget.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday was engaged in a discussion with Deputy commissioners and Superintendent of police across the state.

Sarma said that for creating a robust ecosystem in our state against child marriage, we have to start a mission on prevention of child marriage. Government functionaries, law enforcement agencies, gaon burhas, GP secretaries, SHGs, VDPs etc will be the stakeholders and actors of the ecosystem. Sufficient budgetary allocations will be made in this year's budget to make this mission a success.


He said, “We have to maintain zero tolerance against child marriage. Child marriage is a deep rooted humanitarian issue. So there should be a synergistic effort to eliminate child marriage from the state within 2 years".

He added, "A call centre exclusively dedicated to the problems of child marriage will be made operational to arrest the commission of child marriage in the state. A network will be encouraged to be formed to share intelligence with the government regarding any purported move for child marriage or commission of child marriage any part of the state. Special attention will be paid at vulnerable areas for child marriage. Moreover, steps will be taken to empower the girls to help them to resist child marriage. DCs have been asked to communicate with the government at the earliest for providing any rehabilitation measure required for some girls who are victims of child marriage."
