Assam evictions must follow SC norms, says Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind Chief Mahmood Madani
Moulana Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind, has criticized the ongoing eviction drives in Assam. He stated that evictions must follow Supreme Court guidelines. Madani emphasized the need for rehabilitation for genuine Indian citizens...

Madani while talking to mediapersons in Guwahati on Tuesday. The Jamiat president has been in Assam since Monday and visited some of the eviction hit areas.
"The way eviction is being carried out in Assam is condemnable. We do not oppose the eviction of foreigners. If there are foreigners then they should be deported immediately. But if there are genuine indians there should be rehabilitation for them. "
He also termed the eviction drives in Assam as saddening and barbaric. "The whole country runs on a system. But the attitude of terming someone as Mia, belonging to a certain section and doubtful is harmful. To term someone as doubtful citizen or using derogatory words against a section of people with the intention to be in power, this mindset is more harmful and I am deeply pained by this," he said.
"If people are doubtful, there are system to clear the doubt. If they are foreigners why don't you deport them? We do not have any objection to this," he said while appealing the government to follow the Supreme Court guidelines while carrying out eviction drives.
The Assam government has launched a series of eviction drives. The Assam government has reclaimed 182 square kilometres of land from encroachers. Over 50, 000 people are evicted.
