The AIUDF chief has sparked a major controversy with his comments.
The court of chief judicial magistrate directed the police station to register a case against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Lok Sabha MP Baduruddin Ajmal for comments against women.

The court has directed the Hatigaon Police Station to register a case against AIUDF supremo Baduruddin Ajmal. The plea was filed to the CJM by Dulu Ahmed, AJP party leader following the comments made by Baduruddin Ajmal on women linked to giving birth to more babies.

Ahmed has alleged FIR was not registered against him by the Assam police and as such he had to file the petition to court.

There was protest in several areas of Assam and FIR was lodged in different police station after Ajmal said that Hindus should adopt the "Muslim formula" and get their children married at a young age.

Ajmal on December 3 issued an apology for “inadvertently hurting the sentiments” of the people of Assam. “I take back my statement,” he said, reacting to the criticisms.

He said, “Muslim men marry at the age of 20-22, and Muslim women marry at 18 - the age permitted by law. On the other hand, (Hindus) keep one, two or three illegal wives before marriage. They don't give birth to children, enjoy themselves and save money. After the age of 40, they (Hindus) get married under parental pressure. So, how can one expect that they will bear children after 40? If you sow in fertile land, only then will you bear good crops. There will then be growth.”

He added, “Hindus should also follow the formula of Muslims and get their sons married at a young age of 20-22 and their girls at 18-20 years. Then see how many children are born...” he said.
