A person identifying himself as Gurpatwant Singh Pannu of the separatist Sikh for Justice (SFJ) made calls to some journalists on Sunday and issued a warning to the chief minister.
He said, “We are seeking the liberation of Punjab from Indian occupation through a peaceful democratic process of Khalistan referendum. If your government continues to torture and harass the (Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh aides lodged in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail), you will be held accountable,” he said.
He alleged that pro-Khalistan supporters lodged in Assam are being tortured." We want to make it clear to Chief Minister Sarma, the fight is between pro-Khalistan Sikhs and the Indian regime. So, do not be in the middle in this conflict.”
As many as eight pro Khalistan leaders are lodged at the Dibrugarh central jail. Amritpal's uncle Harjit Singh is in Dibrugarh jail.
Assam Director General of Police, G P Singh tweeted, “Reference audio clip threatening Hon CM Assam by a person called Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a designated individual terrorist under Indian law and heading an unlawful association called Sikh for Justice - 1. A case under appropriate sections of IPC and UAP Act has been registered at STF Police Station of Assam. 2. The security component of Hon CM has been adequately sensitised to the emerging threat. 3. In view of global events, the threat is being taken very seriously by Assam Police. 4. The central agencies have been kept in the loop on the issue.
A senior police officer in state police said that it is sent to central agencies for verifying its authenticity, and all Superintendents of Police had been alerted.
