Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visits flood affected areas of Darrang district

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Bengabara and Naharbari under Mangaldai Assembly constituency in Darrang district to take stock of the recent flood situation and assess the condition of the affected areas.

The Chief Minister inspected the breached portion of the embankment along the Noa River near Bengabara village and reviewed the ongoing repair works. The breach in the river embankment a few days ago had inundated several villages in the area.

Sarma also visited the relief camps set up at the under construction Anganwadi Centre at Bengabara village and Outala HS School and interacted with flood affected people taking shelter there. He enquired about their well being and assured them of all possible assistance. He subsequently inspected the breached embankment along the Kulsi River at Naharbari.


Sarma said that the recent floods had caused considerable hardship to the people of the area following breaches in the embankments. The Chief Minister said that the government would take special measures to rebuild the breached embankments with enhanced strength. He also assured that all flood affected families would be provided the necessary assistance at the earliest as per government norms.

The flood situation in Assam remained grim, with the toll rising by one to 98, even as the number of affected people dipped to 1.55 lakh in 13 districts, an official bulletin said.
