Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma carried out reshuffle in some departments following the minister Parimal Parimal Suklabaidya winning the recent held Lok Sabha polls from Silchar.

Sarma has taken over the Health and Family Welfare Department from Keshav Mahanta., Mahanta, who previously handled the health portfolio, has now been entrusted with additional responsibilities. Sarma was handling health during the 2016 to 2021.

Mahanta will oversee the Transport, Excise and Fisheries departments. These departments were under Parimal Suklabaidya.


Sarma recently said there will be a reshuffle in the council of ministers before August 15 keeping in view the assembly polls.

Assam will go to assembly polls in 2026. Mahanta belongs to BJP's ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
