In a function fixed deposit certificates of Rs 4 lakh each to 852 former ULFA cadres under surrender cum rehabilitation scheme of government of India was provided, Rs 3 lakh as special package of the government of Assam, Rs 3 lakh each to the 45 victims injured in the counter insurgency operations besides Rs 5 lakh each to eight oppressed individual, Rs 10 lakhs each to to the next of kin of 31 missing ULFA cadres.
Total of 936 cadres and family members have received rehabilitation grants for their rehabilitation. Since 2021, over 9.500 former militants of various groups have been given financial aid by the government in the State.
Last year ULFA inked a peace pact with the Centre. Following the agreement on December 29, 2023, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the ULFA was disbanded.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged Paresh Baruah, chief of militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) faction to come and stay in Assam for a week and see the change which the state has witnessed in recent times.
