Assam: At least four killed in landslide in Guwahati

Assam is witnessing incessant rains since Monday. The district administration has asked the people to remain indoors and not to move out unless necessary. The administration has asked people to remain away from flood and landslide prone areas.

While at least four people were killed in a landslide in Guwahati on Tuesday, Kamrup Metro district administration has asked the people not to venture outside the home unless necessary.

Assam is witnessing incessant rains since Monday. The district administration has asked the people to remain indoors and not to move out unless necessary. The administration has asked people to remain away from flood and landslide prone areas.

Schools in the district are closed on Wednesday. A senior official said that four construction workers were killed when huge landslides buried them on a hillside in Nijarapar in the Boragaon area of the city.


“Huge mudslide triggered by incessant rains fell on a house where the victims were sleeping early on Tuesday,” the official said.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati on Monday issued “Red Alert” for Assam and Meghalaya and predicted up to “isolated extremely heavy rainfall” until Thursday.
