Assam: Around 200 jail inmates test COVID-19 positive

Around 200 jail inmates across Assam are tested COVID-19 positive.

Last year during the first wave around 3000 inmates were found COVID positive. A senior Assam police officer, who did not want to be named said, “233 Covid positive prisoners, 54, the highest number, are in Dibrugarh Central Jail”.

Senior leader of banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) Jiban Moran was recently tested positive.


The official said tests are done across the jails in the state. The state level committee headed by a Gauhati High Court judge would meet on Thursday to take stock of the situation in the 31 jails.
